In our article, we will talk about how not to make a mistake in choosing a roofing material and install it yourself.
Characteristics of sheets of metal
The profiled material metal tile is made of steel, using the technology of galvanizing and applying a polymer layer. Thus, modern manufacturers create additional anti-corrosion protection.

Neglecting such calculations, it is possible to provoke a collapse of the truss system and, as a result, the entire building.
Many developers use this system: initially a project is developed roofs made of metal, based on which the necessary materials and their quantity are determined.
After that, they order sheets of metal tiles with their own dimensions.This approach allows for the arrangement of the roof to minimize the number of joints. Accordingly, the roof itself will be airtight and more durable.

The dependence of the complexity of the installation of the roof and the weight of the metal tile

An important point is the issue of delivery of sheets of metal tiles and additional elements to the site.
You need to know: it is necessary to unload and load factory packages using special equipment using soft slings. In order to avoid deformation of the lower sheets, the metal tile should not be stored in the package for more than 1.5 months.
What if you purchased the material in advance? Experts recommend unpacking the sheets and shifting them with slats. This will keep the shape of the sheet and avoid distortion.
It is necessary to transfer sheets in a strictly vertical position along the length, taking them by their edges. For safety, you can wear gloves to protect your hands from the possibility of cuts.
On the eve of installation, make sure that the roof has a flat surface. To do this, double-check the dimensions and shape of the roof.
We advise you to do this: from corner to corner, measure the diagonals of the slopes. If their indicators are not the same, this means: there is a skew on the roof.
What to do in such a situation? Try to correct the distortion. If this is not possible, then when laying the bottom sheet of the metal tile, please note: the lower edge of the lathing must coincide with the overhang line of the roof sheets.
In the event that a distortion of the ends occurs, then it is quite easy to hide it with the help of additional elements.
Important to know: with a slope length of 7 meters, the recommended roof slope is at least 14 degrees.
The latest know-how of the roofing materials market is a self-supporting type of metal tile. When installing this type of material, it is not at all important to know the category: the weight of the metal tile.
Since during installation do-it-yourself metal tile roofs you do not even need to install a crate on the truss system. And all due to the fact that the rear end of the profile of this material has special slats, which provide the coating with greater rigidity.
Tool for mounting metal tiles
Despite the fact that manufacturers do not recommend cutting metal tiles, in practice one still has to use such an operation. Especially when installing roofing for a roof with a complex structure.
You can use the following tools:
- Metal scissors.
- Hacksaw for metal.
- Drill.
- Hand-held electric saw (it must have carbide teeth).
- Other electromechanical tools (which have a polymer coating).
It is strictly forbidden to use a grinder with abrasive circles (the so-called grinder). They explain it this way: the grinder destroys the zinc layer and the polymer coating, due to which corrosion will reduce the tightness of the joint in this place.
It is necessary to fasten sheets of metal tiles with the help of special self-tapping screws for the roof. If you do not want to twist them manually, you can use an electric drill that has a special nozzle with a speed controller or reverse.
Installation of sheets of metal
The pitch of the crate depends on how much the metal tile weighs. Its required value is indicated in the instructions for the material. Don't forget to ask the seller for it.
If you do everything as indicated by the manufacturer, then your roof will have a reliable coating that will serve faithfully for a maximum period.
When installing roofing on a gable roof, the sheets must be installed from its left end. When installing a hipped roof, sheets are installed and fastened on both sides of the highest point on the slope.
Important to know: when mounting sheets from left to right, under the last wave of the previous sheet, they are installed under each next sheet. Do not forget that the edge of the sheets must be installed with an overhang at the eaves by 40 mm.
Installation of roofing sheets experts advise to produce in parallel. This means that at the same time, the laying of sheets begins on both slopes.
Such a measure allows you to control the entire installation process, including the coincidence of the geometry and symmetry of the pattern on the sheets of metal.
Sheets of metal tiles are overlapped by 20-30 mm.
A word of advice: it simplifies the installation process by mounting and pre-bonding several sheets on the ground. After that, they are carefully lifted to the roof and installed. Then they are leveled again (if necessary) and only after that the final fastening is carried out.
