We put ondulin: a ventilation pipe and other elements of the roof

Like any other roofing system, the onduline roof has additional elements that allow you to close and isolate the places of cuts and joints, as well as performing decorative and other functions. For this reason, it will be necessary to stock up on a number of components for those who plan to lay ondulin: a ventilation pipe, elements of valleys, skates, tongs, etc.

In this article, we will talk in more detail about the ventilation pipe, how to install it, and also touch on the features of other elements of the onduline roof, since they are usually purchased as a set from official dealers of the manufacturer.

Ventilation pipe and method of its installation

If your house has a ventilation system, a kitchen hood and / or a sewer riser, it becomes necessary to install a ventilation outlet through the roof.

Among the components of the roofing system Ondulin there is a necessary solution - a special ventilation pipe. It is easily mounted on the roof, while providing reliable protection against leaks.

Ondulin ventilation pipes are used in combination with roofing sheets of the same brand.

The functions of such a pipe include the release of ventilation channels through the roof, the passage of air and the prevention of the penetration of snow and rain. The pipe is made of ABS copolymer, its length is 860 mm and its height is 470 mm.

Ventilation pipe device andulin roofing produced as follows:

• Ondulin is fastened around the place of future installation of the pipe in addition to the sheet located above the place where the pipe passes.
• A special base sheet is laid at the installation site, equipped with fasteners for the ventilation pipe.
• Attach the base for each of its waves.
• A sheet is attached above the base under the ventilation pipe, while providing an overlap on top of the pipe base. The overlap is set at 10cm.
• Next, a pipe is installed in the base and fixed in a vertical position with plastic studs.

Types of ventilation pipes ondulin

• Ventilation isolated outlet-hood.They are used in facilities equipped with a ventilation system, or as an outlet for a kitchen hood or a bathroom hood. The advantage of such a pipe is the removal of air from the premises into the space above the roof, while dust and grease do not settle on the walls, and possible extraneous odors do not disturb the residents. At the end of the pipe outlet, a cap is provided - a deflector, which provides protection from precipitation and, through its design features, enhances air draft.

• Ventilation uninsulated sewer outlet. If there is a bathroom in the house, ventilation of the sewer riser is mandatory. It should be noted that not everyone thinks about this, which in the future often leads to unpleasant consequences. For example, gases can accumulate in the sewer system, which are formed during the decomposition of organic matter. While using the toilet, the pressure in the system changes, and the connection of the sewage system with the outside air allows you to keep the pressure at a normal level. The water seal is not able to withstand the pressure of sewer gases (in the absence of a vent pipe), and unpleasant odors enter the room and reduce the comfort level of staying in the house.
• Ventilation insulated sewer outlet. Such an outlet is generally similar to the previous one, however, it is insulated with polyurethane and a plastic casing 160mm in diameter. Insulation is provided to prevent condensation on the inner surface of the ventilation pipe. Thanks to this, water does not freeze on the inner surface of the outlet.

Each of the described types of pipes is made of special weather-resistant and shock-resistant plastics, which provide the possibility of using pipes in a wide temperature range (-50 ... +90).

Roof outlets pipes consist of an inner metal pipe 125mm (for the first type of outlet) or 110mm (for the second and third type of outlets) in diameter.

It is required to correctly determine the location of the exit on the roof. For example, if the exit hood is located below the level of the ridge and the wind is blowing from the opposite side of the slope, ventilation may be difficult.

Ventilation pipe outlet without prefabricated element

If for any reason the outlet of the Ondulin ventilation pipe is not available. You can try to insulate the junction of the ventilation base and the pipe yourself using other means.

For example, the Enkryl joint waterproofing system can be used to seal the joint between the roof and the vertical ventilation pipe.

Installation of this system takes no more than an hour and is performed as follows:

• The surface around the pipe is degreased.
• Apply the first coat of Enkryl waterproofing compound with a brush.
• Wrap the pipe with a reinforcing fabric based on Polyflexvlies Rolle viscose and wait until the waterproofing mixture is absorbed into this fabric.
• After 15 minutes, another layer of the mixture is applied with a brush already on top of the fabric, and after waiting for the mixture to dry, the design is ready for use. Such insulation can work properly for at least 10 years.

Another method can be the use of Onduflash-Super sealing adhesive tape, which is usually used just for insulating joints with pipes, skylights and any other vertical superstructures.

Other additional elements of ondulin roofing

• When using cover Ondulin ridge element they are laid on the upper edge (the junction of two slopes) of the roof, thereby protecting and isolating the peak of the roof and giving it a complete look.
• The gable element Ondulin is attached before the process of fastening the ridge, thereby closing the gable with the upper overlap of the ridge element.

  

Advice! When using the ondulin coating, the gable element, along with the ridge element, can be used as wind boards.

• The valley is installed at the junctions of two roof slopes, as well as in places where the roof slope meets the wall. The vertical depth of the valley is provided for no more than 75 mm. Cover sheets are cut parallel to the axis of the valley with an overlap of 4 cm. Endova Ondulin involves the installation of additional lathing bars.
• The covering apron is used for sealing the joints between the covering sheets and the wall (pipe). Made from polypropylene and available in black only.
• In order to protect the gap formed between the corrugated sheet and the flat ridge element, ondulin cornice filler is used. If you ignore the installation of this element, moisture, dust and debris can enter the unprotected space. In addition, insects and birds can penetrate there. The filler is made of polyethylene foam.

The described additional items, such as ondulin cornice filler or ventilation pipe, are often only available from official distributors of the company.

If the supplier is not able to provide such products, it is worth doubting him.
