Ondulin is an original building material for roofing, produced by the French company of the same name for more than half a century.

Ondulin is produced by saturating organic fibers with bitumen under pressure and high temperature. What is ondulin made of?

The list of useful properties of the roofing material includes good resistance to precipitation and, in particular, low water absorption.
Ondulin, subject to the installation technology and proper use, is able to withstand significant temperature changes.
Such roofing material It performs well both in tropical heat and in Siberian frosts, with hurricane winds and snowstorms. For this reason, in many of our cities you can often see houses with roofs and walls lined with durable and lightweight euroslate.
Among other things, ondulin is reliable and durable.The manufacturer gives a guarantee on the preservation of the properties of the sheets of material for 15 years, with an actual average service life of about half a century. In the rain, ondulin practically does not make noise, and does not rust from moisture.

As for the shortcomings of euroslate, there are few of them:
- ondulin is combustible;
- dirt collects on its matte surface, and the roof requires periodic cleaning;
- over the years, the material (especially in bright colors) fades.
Ondulin is able to perform the function of not only directly roofing, but also be used as a substrate for concrete or clay tiles. A similar method of roof installation is also called "ondutile".
Such a scheme significantly increases the manufacturability of the tile flooring and, among other things, minimizes the likelihood of roof leakage.
Advice! Perforated sheets will allow you to create a kind of snag. If you want to make the roofing look like a tile, but without significant costs, using ondulin you can cut it into strips 50 cm wide, and then lay them on the crate with an axial step of 30 centimeters. This type of coating will be very similar to clay tiles.
Choice of ondulin
The issue of choosing corrugated onduline sheets, despite the fact that the manufacturer and the manufacturing technology of the material are the same, requires a rather serious approach.

Euro slate roofing
After the choice is made, and the material and components are purchased, they proceed to the most important stage - directly to the roofing work.
And it does not matter whether it is planned to independently install the coating or whether it is planned to hire a team of craftsmen, it will not be superfluous to know the rules for installing ondulin.
This, at a minimum, will allow you to control how professionally the hired installers perform the work, or, as a maximum, will allow you to cope with the task with your own hands.
So, how to install:
- Ondulin initially involves the device of the base - the crate. The values of the side and end overlap of the material, as well as the step of the lathing, depend on the magnitude of the roof slope. With a roof slope not exceeding 5-10 degrees, a continuous crate made of board or plywood is required. The lateral overlap in this case will be two waves, while the end overlap is 300 mm. If the slope of the slope is within 10-15 degrees, the crate is arranged with an interval of 450 mm between the axes of the crate beams. The values of the side and end overlaps will be one wave and 200 mm, respectively. If the slope of the roof slope is more than 15 degrees, it will be necessary to install the crate under the ondulin with a step of 600 mm between the axes. The side overlap will be performed in one wave, and the end overlap will be 170 mm.
Ondulin: installation of sheets is carried out according to the following scheme
If you plan to lay ondulin on top of the old roof, you first need to inspect it and eliminate all identified damage. It is also required to check the waterproofing and ventilation of the roof and, if necessary, their device should be included in the project.
According to the requirements of GOST, ondulin is nailed not to the roof itself, but to the crate, which is mounted on top of the old coating. As the main ribs of this crate, boards with a section corresponding to the width of the waves of the previous roof are selected.
Regarding the transverse ribs, they are made of boards with a section of 50 * 38 or 75 * 38 mm.
It is convenient to mark ondulin sheets with a colored marker or pencil, and to cut with a hacksaw.
Advice! To prevent the hacksaw from getting stuck in the material, its teeth are lubricated with oil. In addition, ondulin can be cut with a hand or circular electric saw.
- Installation of sheets is carried out in accordance with the sequence indicated in the instructions for the material.
