How to make a canopy for grapes yourself

A canopy for grapes is a great way to equip a place to relax or hide the yard from the scorching sun. Moreover, such a design serves primarily as an ornament to any landscape. Therefore, in this article we will consider how to independently make such a canopy.

Types of canopies

Before proceeding with the manufacture of canopies, let's get acquainted with their types. So, according to the type of product design, it can be conditionally divided into three types:

arches They can be either simple, made of flexible rods or wire, or complex - with a concrete base and a metal or wooden frame.
Adjoining the wall As a rule, such structures are attached to the wall of the house and are made of metal pipes or corners.
gazebos They are the finished base for the gazebo. After its manufacture, it remains only to plant the grapes correctly and direct its branches in order to get a closed resting place.

The choice of type of construction depends on its purpose. For example, in the garden you can make a gazebo, and near the house - oblique canopies. In addition, all structures can be conditionally divided according to the type of material from which they are made:

  • from wood;
  • metal.

Below we consider the features of the manufacture of all types of structures.

Production of a canopy from metal

There is no difficulty in creating a metal canopy. The only thing you need to be able to handle the welding machine and other metal tools. True, if there are no such skills, you can turn to a welder for services, but in this case the price of the product will be higher.

Below we consider the features of the manufacture of different types of structures.

Arch

To make such a design, you will need the following materials:

  • Metal bars or pipes;
  • Materials for the preparation of concrete - crushed stone, sand and cement;
  • Wooden boards for formwork.

Instructions for making an arch are as follows:

  • First of all, it is necessary to draw a design drawing indicating all dimensions.
  • Then you need to prepare the site - clear it and level it.
  • Further, from two opposite sides of the site, trenches should be dug under the concrete base. Spruce rods are selected with a small diameter, enough trenches with a depth and width of 20-30 centimeters.When using more powerful pipes, the foundation must be made deeper.
  • At the bottom of the trenches, you need to lay out small stones and make formwork from the boards.
  • Next, you should knead the concrete solution and fill the foundation. At the same time, metal pins must be inserted into the foundation, on which support pipes will be put on.
  • While the concrete is curing, which takes at least 28 days, you can prepare the bars or pipes that will form the top of the structure. To do this, you need to bend the parts to get the required bending radius of the arch.
  • After that, pipe-racks should be welded to the pins and connected to each other with arcs, which are also welded.
  • The final stage is the welding of horizontally located wire jumpers, which will combine all the elements of the structure into a single structure.

Advice! To bend pipes, you can make a simple fixture with your own hands. To do this, on a flat area, you need to draw a semicircle of the desired radius and install pins along it. The pipe should be fixed on the first pin and bent towards the last one.

This completes the process of making the arch, it remains only to put grapes on it and complete the floor. Sand can be used as a coating, however, in this case, you will have to deal with constantly sprouting grass. Therefore, a better option is paving slabs or concrete.

I must say that the attractiveness of the product will depend on the care of the grapes. In summer, during flowering and violent growth of the plant, it is necessary to guide and cut new shoots.After leaf fall, when sap flow stops (three weeks after all foliage has fallen), the grapes must be cut correctly.

Canopy adjoining the house

You can make an adjoining canopy for grapes according to the following scheme:

  • Along the wall of a house or other building, you need to make a foundation and install racks using the method described above.
  • Next, on the wall of the building, you need to mount the pipes for the roof of the canopy. The type of fastening largely depends on the facade of the building. For these purposes, you can use a corner or a wooden beam that is attached to the wall.
  • Next, you need to fix the pipes on one side on the wall, and on the other - on the supports by welding.
  • After that, jumpers should be made of wire, as in the case of an arched structure.

Advice! It is better to paint the metal elements of the structure in green, in which case they will merge with the leaves of the grapes and will not be visible.

Making a gazebo

The gazebo differs from the canopy in that it is a more closed structure. Moreover, it can have a solid roof, which will allow you to hide from the rain. In this case, the grapes are woven only along the walls of the structure. The shape of the gazebo can be rectangular or polygonal.

Below we consider the features of the construction of a simple rectangular gazebo:

  • First of all, the foundation should be made according to the method described above. The only thing, in the case of a gazebo, the foundation is needed on three sides, not two.
  • Next, you need to install the racks. For these purposes, it is best to use profiled pipes.
  • Then all the racks must be connected to each other with jumpers.You can make a fence in the form of a lattice between the racks.
  • Next, you need to weld the roof beams to the racks.
  • The roof can be made from different materials, for example, polycarbonate is an excellent material. However, if desired, grapes can also be put on it, as is the case with canopies.

After the gazebo is ready, it should be equipped with benches and a table.

wooden structures

The principle of building a structure for grapes made of wood does not differ from the buildings described above, except that timber is used as racks, which is dug into the ground and concreted. Fastening of parts is carried out using nails or self-tapping screws.

I must say, wooden structures can last a very long time. The only thing is that for this it is necessary to treat the wood with an antiseptic and periodically paint the product or open it with varnish.

Here, perhaps, are all the main points of making canopies for grapes.

Conclusion

As we found out, it will not be difficult for any home craftsman to make a canopy on his own in order to "put" grapes on it. The main thing is to decide on the type of construction, which is selected depending on the needs, and also to follow a certain sequence of work that we have given above.
