Canopy from pipes: how to make the simplest design from improvised material

The countryside is a great place for outdoor recreation. If you do not have a place on it, under which you can hide during rain or midday heat, then you can make a simple canopy from plastic pipes for plumbing.

It is very easy to mount such a structure, while it will be collapsible. At the end of the season, it can be folded and stored in a barn.

Making a simple pipe structure

To work, you will need the following.

1. Two plastic pipes made of polypropylene, polyethylene or PVC, with a section of 20 mm.
2. Dense matter, it is better if it is waterproof.
3. A strip of strong and dense fabric.
4. 4 cut from a steel pipe, section 25 mm, about 20 cm long.
5. Needle and thread or sewing machine.

Getting ready for work

1. Initially, decide where you will build a canopy.
2. Next, you need to markup. Please note that the structure will be arched, with an awning stretched over it.

The best option is to make 4 marks at the same distance from each other.
At the same time, take into account the dimensions of the canopy, which will depend on what furniture will be located under it, and how many people it will have to accommodate.

3. Take 4 pieces of pipes, their inner section should slightly exceed the outer diameter of the frame elements. Drive them in at the marked points.
4. Do this until there are no more than 2 cm high sections sticking out above the ground. The result of your work will be a kind of "sleeve". They will need to insert plastic pipes.

Building installation

1. Prepare two cuts from a polymer pipe. Their length can be calculated by representing 4 as the sum of the desired height of the two walls + 1.5, because the top of the frame will have a round shape.
2. Next, sew the material that will serve as an awning. The instruction notes that its width should be 1.8 m, because on each side the gap from the fabric to the pipes should be at least 10 cm.

Experts say that it should cover at least 50 percent of the useful area of ​​​​the plane of the future structure.

3. The prepared piece of material should be hemmed along its edges. Further, along the length of the cut, it is necessary to hem double strips of fabric. Then it will be necessary to pass the frame pipes through them. These elements need to be sewn in 10 cm increments.
4. Now you can collect the canopy. Put the tarpaulin over the pipes first.
5. Next, insert them into the bushings driven into the ground.
6. In this case, the frame elements will be bent in the form of arches.

7. Lastly, straighten the awning, giving it the optimal position.

How to make awning fabric water repellent

If you do not have a special moisture-repellent fabric on hand, you can make it yourself. So you get a material for an awning that will reliably protect the space inside the canopy from rain.

Below are three easy ways to do this.

1. Stir in 750 milliliters of water 250 grams of casein glue and 12 grams of lime. In another container, prepare a soap solution containing 1.5 liters of water and 15/20 grams of laundry soap.
   Combine liquids and mix well. Dip the canvas in this mixture. Let it soak well, take it out, wring it out and let it dry.
2. If the material is linen or cotton, dilute 125 grams of gelatin, the same amount of laundry soap and 300 grams of alum in 8 liters of water. Put the solution on the fire and bring it to a boil, remembering to stir regularly.Dip the canvas in this mixture, wait 2 hours, then remove and dry without wringing.
3. Chop 100 grams of baby soap into 3 liters of water and mix. Heat the mixture to 50 degrees and dip the material into it for 30 minutes. Then soak the cloth twice for 15/20 minutes in potassium alum (10% solution).

After the procedures, the material should be rinsed in cool water. Then it should be dried.

Finished pavilions

Now manufacturers produce prefabricated arched and rectangular canopies made of polymer pipes.

1. Analogues for a garage, for a pool or as a structure attached to a house, have a width of 3 or 3.5 m. Their frame is assembled from steel profile pipes for a canopy (20×20×2 mm) in a PVC sheath.
2. Larger structures for gaming, sports and utility pavilions have a width of 4 or 5 m. Their frame consists of double profile pipes, also protected by PVC.
3. The length of such a structure can reach 8 m.

4. Under such a canopy, there is no need to build a foundation. It is enough to drive a pin 100 cm long into the ground, and put an arc of two elements on it and fix them with a self-tapping screw.
