Metal roofing can be called one of the most popular. Strong and reliable, treated with the most modern materials, it will last from 30 to 100 years. Due to relatively low prices, ease of installation and durability, metal roofing is increasingly used to cover houses. There are many different types and varieties available.
We invite you to decide which one suits you best.
Flat metal covers
roofing material is sheets or rolls of galvanized steel, however, a variety is also produced that is not coated with zinc (the so-called black steel).
Light in weight, fire-resistant, durable coating, it is possible to apply on roofs of any degree of complexity. Sheets are produced with a size of 1.25 × 2.5 m, a thickness of 0.5 to 1.5 mm, and a weight of 4.5 to 7 kg per 1 sq.m.
The smooth surface ensures good runoff of water even with a slight roof slope. A small mass allows you not to make an additionally reinforced truss system. The service life of a roof made of galvanized steel is from 25 years, and more, from non-galvanized steel - from 20.
Zinc coating
They are fragments made of zinc with the presence of a small amount of copper or titanium in the composition. The resulting alloy gives the sheets increased strength and ductility even at very low temperatures.
The standard dimensions are 0.66 × 5 m, the thickness is 0.2-1 mm, the rolled version of the coating has a width of 20 to 66 cm. The service life of a roof covered with material from such an alloy is at least 100 years.
copper plating
Spectacular and durable, resistant to corrosion, fireproof, it can last from a hundred years and more.
However, a sufficiently high cost does not always allow homeowners with low and even average financial capabilities to use it. As a rule, the material is produced in the form of rolls 60-70 cm wide, 0.6-0.8 mm thick.
The disadvantages include a change in color from the original copper to brown or gray due to oxidation, already a few weeks after coating, as well as increased condensate from inside the roof, due to the increased thermal conductivity of the material.
Aluminum coatings
They are produced in sheets, as well as in rolls with a width of 95 cm. Lightweight, easy to install, non-corrosive and does not change color, the material allows it to be used to cover roofs of any complexity without additionally strengthening the rafters.
The advantages include the ability not to use roofing screws for metal when laying it, in contrast to the installation of other materials. Only clamping strips are required when fastening the sheets, so there is no need to drill holes in the material and in the rafters.
Profiled roofing materials

Unlike the previous category of materials, which have an absolutely smooth surface, this type of coating is made in the form of sheets with a wavy profile.
Note! This form not only gives increased rigidity to the material, but also dampens the noise from falling raindrops. It's no secret that a flat surface creates a "drum effect" when struck. In the case of a wavy surface, each drop hits the roof along a beveled path, eventually, the noise from the drops is extinguished.
The more embossed the profile and the higher the waves, the less noise effects you will feel. Water will drain along the concave grooves into the drain, and the faster, the greater the slope of the roof slopes. Moreover, when mounting sheets of profiled metal, not only the joining of fragments is simplified, but also their fastening.
One of the most popular varieties of this type of coating is galvanized steel cards. In the same way as in the case of flat material, the steel is coated with a layer of zinc, which prevents rust and gives increased strength and wear resistance.
Of course, in order to prolong the life of the coating, it is advisable to paint it with a specially designed paint every 3-5 years.
In this case, the roof will serve you for at least 50 years without major repairs. One of the modern solutions is the coating of roofing sheets of this type with polymer compositions.
Thanks to this, you will be relieved of the obligation to take care of the roof for many years, and the coating will not corrode and leak, requiring periodic restoration. .
Metal roof

Every year, it becomes easier for homebuilders to choose materials for roofing. Moreover, these materials are becoming more convenient, cheaper, lighter, more beautiful and more durable.
Technologies and developers do not stand still, therefore, for more than a dozen years we have been observing their original and useful solutions on the roofs. One of these is an elegant, beautiful coating, namely - metal tile roof.
Sheets of different sizes, imitated for individual tiles, have collected all the best in manufacturing technologies, installation and quality.
Steel, covered with several layers of protection and decorative painting, not only looks great, is easy to install, lasts a long time, but also looks very presentable.
From a distance, it seems to us that the roof is covered with natural tiles, in harmony with the design and color scheme of the house.
Note! However, the material is rather large sheets, so successfully joined with each other that they create the effect of individual fragments. With a low cost of the product, it creates the appearance of an expensive and prestigious one.A house covered with metal tiles not only looks modern and expensive, it will not create problems for the owner for many decades.
Profiled metal, coated from the inside with a protective layer, and on the outside with an anti-corrosion coating, then with a primer and a color that suits you, has not only an external appeal. Rust, fire, water, snow, wind, and many other factors are not able to destroy such protection.
Noise from raindrops will be damped by the undulating surface. During installation, the fragments are superimposed one on top of the other with the same overlap, which prevents water from entering under the roofing. so your standard tile roof won't last one year.
Features of laying a metal roof

If your choice fell in favor of a metal coating, we can assume that you have made the right decision. Because, such a roof is not only unpretentious and durable, it will attract the attention of your neighbors for a long time, and delight you for decades without letting a single drop inside the house.
When the construction of a house comes to an end, and it is time to cover the roof, most developers are wondering: “how to cover it in order to last, inexpensively and beautifully?”. We ask neighbors, acquaintances, specialists, and each time we draw a conclusion based on a common denominator.
Pay attention - most of them will incline you to a metal roof. This is not surprising, because the coating has been created and modified for the better for more than a decade.
Installing such a coating is completely easy, even for a self-builder. Especially - sheets of metal, because the whole process will remind you of assembling a children's designer for primary school age.
To do this, you only need roofing screws for metal, for fastening sheets to the roof, a drill, a hammer and a little patience.
By choosing the folded fastening method, you will save yourself from drilling procedures, because in this case the sheets will be fastened by bending the joint fragments in various ways.
Methods are standing, recumbent, as well as double and single. Everything will depend on the number of bends of the sheet with the sheet during fastening.
The method is especially suitable for laying rolled and sheet metal coverings. They have sufficient plasticity so that one person can effortlessly connect them to each other on his roof.
It is advisable to lay the metal tile with an assistant who will push the sheets with a piece of board. It is better to fasten with self-tapping screws (screws), screwing them into holes pre-drilled in the sheets.
Moreover, it is initially desirable to strengthen slightly, and after the final installation of all the fragments and their adjustment to each other, it is already fixed thoroughly, nailing or screwing to the crate.
For metal coatings, it is not necessary to make a reinforced truss system, because all types of these roofing materials are lightweight.
