It should be noted right away that sheds for a recreation area are very different in materials and construction methods from similar structures that are being built at construction and production sites, parking lots and squares. From a technological point of view, the main difference is the uselessness of accurate calculations to determine the loads from falling snow.
And that's all, because such summer cottages are either removed for the winter period, or are too small. In order to better understand the issue, we bring to your attention the video in this article and a detailed description of some designs.

Note. This article will focus on light canopies that can be mounted on suburban areas and used for recreation, as well as for weather protection of various materials.
What are they like
- This design has serious advantages over its counterparts in terms of mobility. It is collapsible and this means that at any time you can remove the awning and disassemble the frame without any harm to the integrity of the profile (the instructions from the manufacturer allow this).
As you can see, the frame here is made of a tubular profile, which gives the structure not only strength, but lightness, which is very important for prefabricated structures. The awning is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which means that it will not lose color from ultraviolet radiation (sunlight), and in winter it can be stored in an unheated room - PVC is not afraid of frost.
- In the photo above you see a shed structure, the basis of which is a frame made of a metal profile with reinforced trusses. Sufficiently large dimensions of the structure will allow you to park a car here or store any materials.
Trusses reinforced with triangles allow the use of almost any roofing material:
- polycarbonate,
- corrugated board,
- metal tile,
- and even slate, although its sheets are quite heavy.
And also here a thick layer of snow falling in winter is not terrible. In this case, the way the frame racks are fixed is not the least important, since we have an autonomous structure that can withstand heavy loads, so it is best to fill them with concrete.
- Hybrid structures of this type are very popular, as in the top photo - this is a cross between a gazebo and a canopy. Moreover, both definitions are suitable here, since we have a place for conversation and a roof from rain and sun.

Please note that the structure is stationary, and the frame profiles are fixed in the ground.

We do it ourselves
Note. We will consider the simplest version of a canopy that you can build on a suburban area, while its price will be almost symbolic.
But you don’t have to make the frame out of wood - a metal pipe profile is quite suitable for this.
So, we will now learn how to make a fairly simple canopy for relaxing with our own hands, using for this a wooden frame for the frame and polycarbonate as a roofing material. As you probably already noticed, our frame is one-sided.
That is, one side of the trusses is supported on racks, and the opposite side is on the wall of the house. But the same construction principle can be used for a full-fledged frame, where the racks are located on both sides.
As always, any work begins ... no, not with a big smoke break, but with the layout of the structure, the dimensions of which in this case should correspond to the adjacent building and the free area that you are going to protect from the weather.
As racks, a wooden beam 100 × 50 mm was used here, with a crate step of one and a half meters. It should be installed in pre-drilled holes. But since the wood will rot in the ground, it should be protected from moisture.
In this case, the best option for protecting the butt is to coat it with molten bitumen, but not just sprinkle it with earth, but pour it with concrete. They are usually poured with cement-sand mortar, but before that they cover the pillar with stones and compact them well. The liquid cementing mixture penetrates into the gaps between them and concrete is obtained.
When you install all the racks, be sure to check their level not only vertically, but also horizontally so that the ceiling lag, which also serves as a power plate, fits snugly around the entire perimeter plane. To fix both beams (vertical and horizontal), connect with nails or self-tapping screws, but after that, additionally strengthen the joint with a metal corner.
Naturally, you will not lay polycarbonate sheets directly on the strapping beam, and for this you definitely need to do roof batten. For this, thick boards or a 50 × 50 mm rail are suitable.
The ends of the crate should protrude evenly by 15-20 cm to make a small visor. Fasten polycarbonate to wood with wood screws with a rubber press washer.
Conclusion
We made a single-sided sloping canopy for relaxing in the country, but by the same principle you can make an arched ceiling. But for an oval roof, you will already need metal profile arcs, which can be purchased at hardware stores.
