Unlike pigs, the anatomical structure of the human head allows it to be positioned in such a way as to look up. In particular, we can look at the ceiling in our own dwellings. That is why the choice of ceiling finishes requires no less attention than finishing any other part of the interior.
Choosing a kitchen ceiling
You should be especially careful in terms of kitchen ceilings, which, as you might guess, are subject to a more significant functional load. In particular, there is a lot of soot in these rooms, there is high humidity. In general, external factors significantly affect the appearance of the ceiling, even if the kitchen has a powerful hood and cooks less often.
Therefore, one of the main criteria for choosing a material for a kitchen ceiling is still practicality. Of course, aesthetics should also be remembered, but it is best to proceed from the position that the ceiling must be made resistant to changes in temperature and humidity, and also so that it can be easily washed if necessary.
Whitewash
The use of chalk whitewash is one of the oldest and most common finishes. Nevertheless, it is chalk whitewashing that is the least practical option for the kitchen; if you still want to do whitewashing, then it is best to choose lime for the kitchen. This option is more suitable.
Plastered and plastered ceiling
Version with white surface. Plaster allows you to get environmentally friendly materials and not reduce the height of the room. Perhaps one of the significant drawbacks is the complexity of plastering and puttying ceilings, you need:
- level the surface
- use putty and plaster;
- perform work in several stages;
- do final alignment.
However, a well-plastered and puttied ceiling really looks beautiful and quite practical.
Drywall
The use of drywall is more convenient than other options, since on the one hand it does not require significant labor costs, and on the other hand, it allows you to embody ideas and concepts that are completely inaccessible in other options. The material is already cheap, if you buy below market value, you risk receiving material with manufacturing defects. Drywall can be combined with various other options, it makes magnificent multi-level structures, it is perfectly complemented by decor.
In addition, there are moisture resistant options with high strength. Thus, this ceiling can serve for a rather long period, and, given its cheapness, it is almost ideal. At the same time, drywall can also be painted. This option allows you to periodically update the interior.
Plastic lining
To some, this option may seem a little more primitive compared to plastering or the same drywall. Nevertheless, there are modern options for plastic lining, which looks great. Of course, these materials are not as environmentally friendly, but they also do not require significant labor to install. The main advantage should be noted the possibility of regular washing. It is really easy to wash the plastic, and if you correctly use the sealant and process the seams, then such a ceiling will retain its original appearance for a long period.
