How to choose a chest of drawers for the living room

A warm cozy evening is most often associated with the living room and if you sort through the various pieces of furniture that are located there in your mind, then a chest of drawers does not often come to mind. However, a chest of drawers is far from the last detail in the interior. Functional and sometimes quite elegant, it is able to set the tone for the room.

How to choose a chest of drawers

Of course, the chest of drawers does not always set the style itself, sometimes it also matches the style of the rest of the space. In particular, chests of drawers are chosen depending on the style solutions that are available in this particular living room and, of course, baroque chests of drawers will differ from those used in a rustic style. In addition, you should pay attention to the design of the chest of drawers, which can also vary.

Chests of drawers are different, and, in fact, this term covers a rather impressive range of models. In particular, chests of drawers are distinguished:

  • wall-mounted - in accordance with the name, this option is mounted on the wall and is used for conditions with a minimum load;
  • attached - they come complete with something (usually a sofa) and complement the furniture ensemble with their own presence;
  • island - beautiful from all sides and therefore are installed in the center of the room, they are something like a bar;
  • standard - often they are part of a furniture set, installed against the wall, sometimes they are just a cabinet with drawers, but they can be something more interesting.

Note! Both the sideboard and the simple cabinet are chests of drawers; there is no contradiction in this; in translation, a chest of drawers generally means “comfortable”. It probably means a comfortable piece of furniture for the living room.

Chest of drawers dimensions

The choice of dimensions is primarily determined by functionality. In particular, you should make sure that the chosen size allows you to freely pull out the drawers and does not interfere with the passage. In general, choose based on the size of the room. Optimal here is the principle of proportionality, that is, you need to choose furniture that matches in proportion. If the bedroom is relatively small, then you should not look for a huge chest of drawers.

If it is spacious, then on the contrary, a small chest of drawers will be lost and look not particularly profitable and harmonious. Especially carefully you should choose this piece of furniture for small rooms. There, a mistake can lead to significant inconvenience. Therefore, you should not choose chests of drawers that are not measured accurately and are not correlated with the room. In a store or trade pavilion where furniture is purchased, you should measure the chest of drawers first with closed drawers and doors, and then with fully open ones.

So it will be possible to understand the full dimensions.In general, you need to carefully look at how the chest of drawers will “work” (open / close, etc.), so as not to be confused with the dimensions. The resulting maximum size must be applied to the room. If there is enough free space, then such a model can be chosen for purchase and use in your living room.
