Modern wardrobes are made in different versions, which differ in size, design, colors, materials and a number of other parameters. One of the types of such furniture is radius cabinets, including concave and rounded elements. Such cabinets look elegant, stylish and successfully combined with any interior solutions. Such furniture may cost more than standard straight cabinets, but its appearance compares favorably with standard products, in addition, radius wardrobes have several other important advantages.
Benefits of radius wardrobes
Like standard coupes, radius cabinets allow you to store a large number of things - from clothes for all seasons to sports accessories, tools and even pickles for the winter. Regardless of the external design, the interior of such a cabinet can be made in different versions, providing for the location of shelves, partitions, drawers, compartments and pantographs according to individual projects.
Despite the fact that rounded and concave doors and main or side modules can accommodate a little less things (the radii “eat up” the usable space a little), this generally does not affect ergonomics and spaciousness. In most cases, such rounded modules have a capacity of only 5-7% less. But at the same time, this design allows you to save usable space in the hallway and get rid of non-functional and potentially dangerous sharp corners, which is an important criterion for owners of small-sized housing with narrow hallways.
Important parameters of wardrobes with radius elements
If such furniture is made to order, you should consider in advance the dimensions of individual elements and take into account the overall dimensions. Particular attention should be paid to the following points:
- Sliding door dimensions. The standards provide for a width of 50 centimeters or more.
- Wardrobe height. Best of all in the interior look sliding wardrobes, made "to the ceiling".
- Shelf depth. In such furniture, they can be of the same depth as the sides of the cabinets. With a decrease in depth, the functional area is also reduced: only small items can be stored on such shelves.
- Distance between shelves. Considering that “bulky” street and winter things are stored in the wardrobes, it is necessary to leave enough space for them (at least 30-40 centimeters between the shelves).
Even in typical cabinets manufactured according to standard designs, it is impossible to find evenly spaced identical shelves. Designers think through the internal structure, trying to use the entire space as efficiently as possible, so you should expect that the dimensions of the sections will vary. When ordering a wardrobe according to an individual sketch, it is necessary to determine in advance approximately what will be stored in the hallway, and based on this, plan the depth of the shelves, their number and the distance between them.
Features of Radius Cabinet Doors
The doors of the radius modules do not move apart: they are installed in the traditional way, on hinges. The doors of the main, central modules, move apart to the sides, and they are installed either on a suspension system (the main rollers for moving the door are mounted on the upper horizontal of the cabinet), or on a lower sliding system. In the second case, the door slides on rollers along the groove in the lower horizontal, and is held on top by special fixing elements on a metal rail.
The second option is better to choose with doors that are too wide and heavy, the weight of which the upper system may not support. Radius cabinets are an interesting option that looks good in both modern and classic interiors. But if you want to order such a cabinet, you need to take into account that its cost will be 30-50% higher, since the manufacture of radius doors and modules is more expensive and laborious.
