How to create an Italian style apartment

Italian style is one of the most interesting and includes centuries-old cultural traditions. When we talk about the Italian style, we turn our eyes to the era of the Roman Empire, then we wash it to the power of Venice and thus go through the most diverse stages of history and options for the formation of culture.

Essential Italian style

Much in the Italian style is harmoniously connected. Almost always, we are talking about the originality of natural materials, which are organically combined with a slightly haughty luxury. The basis of the Italian style, a kind of foundation for this style, is the era of antiquity, in particular the Roman Empire. As you know, Rome has integrated many of the other cultures.Therefore, it is quite possible to observe here both the evolutionary continuation of Greek architecture and some borrowings from the bohemian styles of France, in general, quite a lot of various details.

In addition, quite a lot of elements of the so-called Tuscan style are now observed. The emergence of this phenomenon in culture is associated with an increase in the number of urban residents, which was observed at the beginning of the previous century. After the cities were actively populated, people gradually began to settle in the suburbs, and as a result, typical Tuscan houses made of natural materials with open terraces and arches appeared. Such houses were decorated with stained-glass windows and mosaics, frescoes and ceramic tiles.

If we talk about the modern version, then it combines both rustic elements and bohemianism. In general, something like the Provencal style, only with its own distinctive features. On a conceptual level, Italian style embodies the upholding of tradition. As a rule, houses that were made in this style belonged to families and were passed on to each other from century to century. Italian style is about family ties, patriarchy, closed communities, maintaining culture, traditions, and therefore it is easy to see an abundance of antique furniture and small accessories and details that make up the legacy of a large family.

Other distinctive features of the Italian style:

  • fireplaces;
  • big windows;
  • the use of stucco;
  • the presence of arches and massive columns;
  • use of space zoning.

Of course, it is not always possible to follow these traditions directly, and then modern Italian style comes to the rescue.

Modern Italian style

This option is more often used for city apartments, but even here the inhabitants of Italy manage to maintain their ancient traditions. In general, the apartment is treated as a large art space, not just a home, but also an object of aesthetic contemplation that combines functionality with beauty. In such a space, quite a lot of modern decor items are used, antiques or vintage items are combined with modern accessories.

In the center of the dwelling there is a sofa and a small bio-fireplace - this is an alternative to the large living room of a private house, but the essence is conveyed correctly. The sofa is used to communicate with friends, gather loved ones, and the bio-fireplace creates a feeling of comfort. Technologies and organic trends are included in the Italian style. So a plasma TV may well be decorated with stucco or magnificent bas-reliefs.
