Along with the traditional glazing of balconies, a frameless system is often found today, in which the glass has no frames, and the glass profile is attached directly to the parapets and upper balcony slabs. The sashes in such systems do not open on ordinary hinges, but move apart on rollers.
What is frameless glazing
A distinctive feature of such a system is the effect of monolithic glass with fully closed sashes. All glasses, which can have a thickness of 6 to 10 millimeters, in this position become a single “canvas” without protruding corners. The glass used for such work is made according to a special technology and is not traumatic: if such glass is broken, it crumbles into small crumbs, and large pieces with sharp edges that can injure a person are not formed.
With frameless glazing, the individual glass elements are not joined directly to each other. Between them there is always a thin and visually imperceptible gasket-seal, which prevents dust and moisture from entering the room. Installed glass can be shifted both horizontally and folded vertically.
At first glance, such structures look elegant, but unreliable, but in fact, thanks to the lower and upper profiles in which the glass is installed, this system is quite strong. Special glass care is not required. It is enough to treat it once a year with a special silicone compound that repels dust and dirt particles, but if the glass is heavily soiled, it can be washed in the usual way using any window cleaner.
Benefits of frameless glazing
Such a system has several advantages:
- increased strength and reliability compared to traditional glazing (tempered glass of different thicknesses is used);
- the ability to open windows horizontally and vertically;
- safety in terms of the possibility of injury when breaking glass;
- creation of unique glazing systems according to individual projects (specific sizes and shapes of window openings are taken into account, for which glass is made according to the required dimensions);
- the possibility of creating unique exterior structures, including rounded ones;
- additional protection against precipitation and dust from the street entering the room;
- simple and easy care without the need for special detergents.
Frameless glazing looks more aesthetically pleasing than constructions with a plastic profile or wooden frames.For owners of apartments on the shady side of the house, such systems have another advantage: frameless windows let in the maximum possible amount of sunlight, since the absence of frames increases the total window area by about 10%. Regardless of the overall design of the house and facade, frameless glazing always looks aesthetically pleasing and harmonizes well with any architectural and color solutions.
