How to organize a comfortable workspace

We devote most of our precious time to work in the office or home office. We have to sacrifice our own comfort, and sometimes we do not notice how the surrounding space affects us. Do you sometimes feel that you can not cope with the pile of tasks assigned to you? This is because your workplace is cluttered and it is impossible to find anything there.

What is ergonomics?

Ergonomics is the discipline that studies the conformity of a person with his working environment in order to increase labor productivity. Its main task is to help organize the work process and increase your efficiency. Ergonomics essentially provides you with convenience, comfort and safety. However, there are people who are used to moving around the house with a laptop while working. If they are so comfortable to work, then there is nothing to change. In other cases, the work area must be optimized as much as possible for the sake of high labor productivity.

Deciding on a table

There must be a table in the workplace. It must be chosen responsibly. The most successful desktop size is 1 m 200 cm by 800 cm. A desktop computer can fit here and most of the free space will be occupied by it. There should be a decent space from the table to the wall, as it is necessary that we do not experience discomfort when we get up from the table. There should not be a distance of less than 35 cm behind our back. This also applies to a swivel chair, where the same space should be on the side. If there is no storage system in the table, additionally buy something like a shelving unit.

We plan space

There are certain rules for organizing the workspace. Try to stick to all of the following.

  • Ideally, the table should be near a window, as natural light is important. But there is a risk that it will be difficult to get to the window from behind the table to wash it and ventilate the room. Therefore, it is best to leave a free space of about 20 cm between the window and the table so that the curtains and the radiator fit freely there. You will need to approach the window and for this you will need another 35 cm.
  • Blackout curtains should be hung on windows to prevent glare on the computer monitor, as well as other possible deterioration in its visibility.
  • You need to turn the table so that your face is facing the door. Then you will be able to see who enters your office door.
  • Swivel office chairs on wheels with armrests are slightly larger than a regular chair, so you should take these dimensions into account when organizing your workplace.
