Materials and tools
From the materials you need the following:

Material Description
The bottom layer of waterproofing. There are different types of materials, but I use the products of the TechnoNIKOL company, which is the leading manufacturer in our country. Products of this brand can be bought at almost any hardware store.
I put the bottom layer under the insulation, so I need twice as much material. You can use a dense film as a substrate for mineral wool, it is cheaper, but less reliable.
top layer of waterproofing. The laying technology of TechnoNIKOL soft roofing, just like materials from other manufacturers, involves the construction of a two-layer system.
The top layer differs from the bottom one by the presence of a topping, which protects the surface from damage and the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation.
stone wool. To insulate the roof, a layer of 15-20 cm is needed, the material is placed in two layers. This improves the quality of thermal insulation and simplifies the workflow.
It is important to use materials of high density so that they can withstand loads and do not sag when a person moves along the surface.
Cement-sand mixture. It is necessary for the construction of a screed when leveling the surface and creating a slope in the right direction.
If the volume of work is large, then you can order the delivery of the finished solution to the facility, or prepare it yourself from sand and cement.
Dowels for insulation. If you have a concrete base, then standard options are used as in the photo. If the roof is made of corrugated board, then special telescopic fasteners are used.
Bituminous mastic. Needed for additional fastening of roofing material in difficult areas.
Adjacencies to walls, pipe outlets, parapets, tin elements - all this is best additionally smeared with mastic in order to create a reliable hydro-barrier.
For laying roofing materials, you need the following tool:
Brush - to clean the surface of debris;
Concrete mixer. Preparing the solution by hand is very difficult, and it takes a very long time. Equipment can be rented, the price of the service is low, so you will not spend a lot of money;
A concrete mixer greatly simplifies and speeds up the work of pouring the foundation for a rolled roof.
rule. Instead of the rule, you can use a flat, durable rail. A device is needed to level the solution along the beacons;
Tape measure, level and pencil;
Knife for thermal insulation. If a special tool is not at hand, then a hacksaw with a fine tooth is well suited for cutting stone wool. For cutting roofing material, any sharp knife with a hard blade is suitable;
Gas burner and bottle. Roofing material is heated using a special burner. It is easy to work with her, the main thing is to observe safety precautions. This equipment can also be rented so as not to spend money on buying a tool that is unlikely to be needed in the future;
The soft roof burner has a long handle and the ability to adjust the gas supply
Poker. This is what experts call a device with which the roll is gently untwisted as it is glued. You can buy it or make it yourself.
The poker greatly simplifies the process of gluing rolled soft roofing.
Screed pouring and roof insulation
The device of a roof from rolled materials assumes the correct preparation of a surface.It should be level and sloping to one side or towards the drain shaft in the middle, if any.

Beacons are exposed.
First, the cord is pulled. It should be located taking into account the slope, which should be at least 2 cm per linear meter;
Next up are beacons. It is easiest and cheapest to use steel pipes as guides;
To set the pipes with your own hands exactly according to the marks, place pieces of brick or concrete under them;
Lighthouses are displayed all over the roof. Both the slope and the level are checked over the entire plane, for this you can pull the cord across the beacons, which is pulled between the extreme elements in several places.
Lighthouses are fixed on concrete. The solution is located in a continuous strip or in piles with a step of 30-40 cm.
The photo shows how to properly level the mortar - it is smoothed at an angle, and the upper part of the guide is cleaned.
The screed is poured in parts. First, the solution is evenly distributed over the surface, after which it is pulled together using the rule.
Excess composition is removed, and if there is not enough solution in some areas, then it is added and the alignment is done again.
Surface blemishes can be wiped off. For this, a polyurethane grater or a wooden mop is used.
To make problem areas easier to process, moisten them with water.
You can walk on the surface in half a day. Filling usually takes place in several stages, after processing a separate part, you need to wait for it to dry before continuing to work.
The finished screed must dry. The solution dries and gains strength within 3 weeks, which is how much it is desirable to wait before continuing work.If the deadlines are running out, then you can wait less, the minimum period is 10 days.
A roll roof is glued onto a concrete base. First, the bottom layer is spread out to align it on the plane and cut off the excess part. After that, the material must be twisted into a roll again.
The material is heated by a burner and glued to concrete. Welded roofing is convenient because, by heating section by section, you can quickly and very reliably stick the material to any solid surface.
How hot should the bottom layer be? Until it becomes very soft, almost liquid. But at the same time, the bitumen should not drain, the fiberglass base should not be visible.
It turns out a moisture-proof base on which you can put a heater. You can walk on the roofing material, put materials on it. The main thing is not to damage the surface.
The first layer of mineral wool is laid. It is necessary to tightly join the elements to each other and lay them so that the transverse joints do not coincide. That is, every second row begins with a half sheet.
This makes it possible to exclude surface deflection under loads, which is very important for maintaining the reliability of roll coatings.
The second layer is laid with an offset. It is important here that no seams coincide - neither longitudinal nor transverse. The picture clearly shows how the laying is done, try to arrange the elements so that the joints are offset by at least 20 cm relative to the first row.
Roofing device
As I noted above, the TechnoNIKOL laying technology is no different from working with other materials. The process looks like this:

Work starts from the edge of the slope. The surface warms up and sticks to the base.Rolled roofing adheres very well to high-density mineral wool, although it is not necessary to heat it over the entire surface. Many heat only the edges and fix them.
The following rows of material are laid. The process looks like this:
Holes for dowels are drilled along the edge on one side, fasteners are inserted and fixed;
The next canvas is laid with an overlap of at least 100 mm, warmed up and glued.
Pay the main attention to the high-quality soldering of the joints, they are the most dangerous place in terms of leaks.
Outlets of pipes are isolated especially carefully. The junction is smeared with mastic, after which it is carefully trimmed so that the soft roof goes onto vertical surfaces by at least 70 mm. After that, the material is gently heated with a burner and glued on all sides. pipes.
Mounting brackets for drip. They are needed if the roof does not protrude beyond the walls. Metal strips are used, which should protrude 10-15 cm to the edge. For a guideline, it is easiest to pull the construction cord.
For fastening, dowel-nails with a length of at least 100 mm are used.
Brackets are located throughout the overhang. The step of their fastening is 30-40 cm. I advise you to install the elements more often to ensure maximum strength and rigidity of the structure.
The ebb is fixed. For fastening, you can use dowels, then holes in the roof are drilled along the edge. And you can drill holes in the plates and fasten the structure with metal screws. In this case, each bracket should have 2 self-tapping screws.
The junction of the ebb and the roof is glued with a narrow strip. A tape 30-40 cm wide is cut out and glued along the entire length of the ebb with a burner. It is important to close the connection as securely as possible.
The edge is sealed with a whole roll. The device of a soft roof continues by gluing the sheet along the ebb, it is located with an indent of 5-10 mm from the edge.
Thus, we provide excellent waterproofing of the outflow. One narrow band is not enough for high-quality protection for many years.
The first sheet of the top layer of waterproofing is glued. First, the roll is unwound and leveled on the surface. After that, it is twisted back and gently glued to the bottom layer.
Section by section is warmed up, and the sheet is gently pressed against the surface. A roller should protrude along the edge bitumen 5-7 mm high, this is an indicator of good bonding quality.
Pasting is done with an offset. As you can see in the photo, the rolled roofing materials of the upper and lower layers are shifted by about 20 cm relative to each other.
This ensures the reliability of waterproofing and eliminates overheating of the joints, which often occurs when they coincide.
Parapets and vertical junctions require special attention. The roof must extend to the walls by at least 200 mm.
As for the parapets, they are glued completely, for this the material is adjusted to the surface, after which it is heated with a burner and glued tightly.
This is what the finished result looks like. The roof is neat and reliable, the service life with proper work is more than 20 years.
