This article talks about what the Icopal roof is, what advantages and disadvantages it has, and what color options are offered on the construction market.
The modern market offers a wide variety of roofing materials, including novelties developed using modern technologies with improved performance and increased material life. At the same time, flexible tiles are evaluated by many experts as the most optimal solution for roofing, since it is in it that all the most important positive qualities of the material are present. Roofing with such materials, for example, roofing from Katepal and Ikopal, makes it really high quality.

The manufacturer of this roof, operating since 1876, is at the forefront in the production of bituminous soft roofs around the world. For the manufacture of this roof, the most modern equipment is used at 64 factories located around the world.
Main characteristics

Icopal bituminous tiles - roofing, are multi-layer tiles, the basis of which is non-woven fiberglass, which has increased strength.
A layer of high quality modified bitumen is applied on top of the fiberglass, which, in turn, is covered with shale dressing, which is a natural material and includes dust-free slate, designed to protect against mechanical damage and exposure to sunlight.
The bottom of the Icopal roof has a self-adhesive bitumen, which ensures both the tightness of the roof and the ease of installation.
Since bituminous tiles are an artificial material, they do not require elasticity to the same extent as rolled materials. The deformation of the material (during aging) is limited in each individual tile, which eliminates the violation of the integrity of the entire coating (Footnote 1).
Important: slate dressing does not crumble over time, allows you to give the roof an aesthetic appearance, and also provides a variety of colors for tiles.
Consider the main advantages of Icopal shingles:
- High resistance to both low temperatures and high temperatures up to 90°. This allows the use of tiles in regions with adverse weather conditions, such as in northern latitudes and in southern hot regions;
- The soft tile possesses absolute resistance to high humidity;
- Able to withstand fairly large snow cover and strong wind currents;
- Immune to the action of ultraviolet rays;
- Resistant to rot and corrosion;
- During the entire service life, it retains its appearance and original properties.

In addition, it should be noted that Icopal soft roofs have such an advantage compared to other coatings as versatility, which allows them to be used for any roofs, regardless of shape, complexity and configuration.
This material can even be used for domes and bulbous roofs. The thick base of the Icopal tile provides sufficiently high rates of longitudinal and transverse breaks, which makes it resistant to mechanical damage both in the process roof installationas well as during operation.
Important: when covering even the most complex roofs, Icopal gives a minimum percentage of waste.
The important advantages of Icopal roofs also include the minimum loss of powder, which in the worst case is about 10% throughout the entire service life. It should also be noted that this soft tile has a rather high service life: manufacturers claim a service life of 40 to 50 years, the guarantee for the material is 15 years.
Icopal roofing is also distinguished by a rather simple installation procedure, which is due to two main factors:
- The presence of valley, ridge and cornice strips;
- Low weight of the material, which eliminates the need to strengthen the supporting structure.
It should also be noted that the laying of this tile does not require the use of special tools, it is enough to have a hammer, glue, a roofing knife and roofing nails.The instruction attached to the material allows you to perform the installation on your own, even for a person who does not have special knowledge and skills.
Bitumen shingles are manufactured by Icopal at 5 production plants in Europe (France, Finland, Poland and Slovakia) in accordance with the European standard EN 544 (Footnote 2).
Important: when laying soft (bituminous) tiles, one should take into account the fact that they are used on roofs with a slope of at least 11 °, that is, the lowering of the roof level is 20 cm for each next meter.
It is also necessary to keep in mind that the base for such a tile should allow nailing evenly - in the case of using boards as a base, their moisture content should be no more than 20%.
Colors of soft tiles Icopal

Icopal soft tiles are available in a wide variety of modern and classic shapes and colors.
The assortment has over 200 different color shades of this tile, which allows satisfying the needs of even the most demanding customers:
- So, the Natur series it is distinguished by a calm and simple, but at the same time elegant coating, made in the form of hexagons in a natural monochromatic color;
- For Tema Series an unusual bold two-tone color is characteristic, visually increasing the volume of the roof;
- Nova - a two-color roof with an unusual three-dimensional pattern;
- Claro Series is a novelty in which bitumen of the SBS brand is used, which has improved elasticity and physical and technical indicators. This tile is produced in a rectangular shape with the presence of blue;
- Optima Series produced in the form of hexagonal two-color tiles with a shadow;
- antique - hexagonal colorful tiles;
- Care - the original rectangular tile, which is quite heavy due to the use of a special type of bitumen. This grade of bitumen is reinforced with two-layer fiberglass and covered with large flakes of slate or granules, which gives the tiles unique natural shades.
Coating use roofs Icopal tiles allow you to cover the roof without unnecessary financial and labor costs, ensuring its reliability, attractiveness and durability.
