Installation of metal tiles: video and tips for work

installation of metal tiles videoRoofing with metal tiles is one of the most popular solutions in the construction of private houses. Can you do this work yourself? Of course, yes, but first you need to study how the installation of metal tiles is carried out - videos, information materials and a description of the technology can be found on specialized resources.

Tools you need for the job

For installation, you will need the following set of tools:

  • Sheet cutting tool;
  • Screwdriver with speed control;
  • Roulette;
  • Long straight rail;
  • Marker for marking;
  • Hammer.

In addition, it is necessary to take care of safety during the work, so you should stock up on a mounting belt with a safety halyard and shoes with soft and non-slip soles.

Advice! For cutting metal tiles, a tool with abrasive wheels (“grinder”) is categorically not suitable; you should use an electric jigsaw, circular saw or metal shears.

To fasten sheets of metal tiles, it is necessary to purchase branded self-tapping screws equipped with a press washer made of EPDM rubber.

The service life of such self-tapping screws is comparable to the service life of the metal tile itself. When using ordinary self-tapping screws, fasteners will become unusable after a few years. Therefore, the coating will soon require repair.

Laying sheets of metal

Laying sheets of metal

You can start laying sheets of metal tiles after performing a number of works:

  • truss system must be waterproofed. To do this, use the laying of modern membrane materials, which are fixed with a construction stapler.
  • A crown grate is built on top of the waterproofing, which is necessary to ensure the free passage of air and ventilation of the under-roof space.
  • The next stage is the construction of the crate, and in the places where the valleys are installed and the exit of the chimney pipe, it must be solid.
  • Roofing elements are installed on the finished crate: lower valleys, internal aprons, adjoining strips.

After completing the preparatory work, you can start do-it-yourself metal tile installation.

Installation of sheets in one row

  • The first sheet is laid at the right or left end and fixed in the center of the upper part with one self-tapping screw.
  • The second sheet of metal tiles is laid side by side. If the installation is started on the right side of the building, then the subsequent sheet is laid with an overlap. If the work is carried out in the opposite direction, then when laying the next sheet, its edge is brought under the edge of the previous one.

Advice! There is no difference in which direction to lay the sheets. The direction is chosen solely for reasons of convenience.

  • After preliminary alignment, the second sheet of metal tile is fastened with self-tapping screws to the first, but is not yet attached to the crate.
  • Then two more sheets are laid in the same way. The resulting block of metal sheets fastened together is again leveled and attached to the crate. Eight self-tapping screws are used per square meter of coverage. The screws are screwed into the deflection of the wave, that is, in the place where the material is adjacent to the crate.
  • It is very important to properly adjust the screwdriver. The washer under the self-tapping screw should only be slightly compressed, not deformed. Only in this case, it reliably seals the hole in the roofing material.

Advice! In the event that there is a protective film on the metal tile, then it must be removed immediately after installation.

Laying metal tiles on long slopes

Of course, the fewer material joints there are on the roofing, the less the risk of leakage. However, it is extremely inconvenient to work with sheets of metal tiles whose length exceeds 4 meters.

In addition, when ordering sheets that are too long, the risk of damage during transport, unloading and installation increases.Therefore, on long slopes, metal tiles are laid in several rows.

The laying technology practically does not differ from that described above, only blocks from sheets are assembled differently.

  • The first sheet is laid and leveled along the cornice and slope;
  • The next sheet of metal tiles is laid over it and fixed with a self-tapping screw in the center of the upper part. Both sheets are overlapped.
  • The third sheet of metal tile is laid next to the first and fastened to it, and the next one is placed above the third.
  • Thus, a block is obtained, made of four sheets fastened together.
  • After the resulting block is leveled, the sheets are screwed to the crate with screws.

After completing the laying of sheets of metal tiles, ridge and end strips, external valleys and external aprons should be installed.

Then they install the necessary accessories for the roof - cornice stairs, ventilation outlets, etc.
