Advantages of velor upholstery of upholstered furniture

The fluffiness or silkiness of fibers from natural or artificial wool can create an impressive effect, like a play of light on the surface that the material flows around. Upholstery of upholstered furniture with velor is quite practical for daily use, as it is well cleaned even when dry. The main advantage of a sofa with such upholstery will be its unique ability to look like new for a long time.

Properties that velor has

The main difference can be considered a velvety thick pile, very soft and pleasant to the touch. Upholstery fabric is used with a high density, the basis of the material contains polyester. It happens that cotton or viscose can be added to the composition, as well as artificial components - spandex or polyamide and the like. The greater the percentage of synthetic fibers in the upholstery, the more durable it will be.The density of the fabric usually varies between 240-375 g/m. These numbers indicate how many grams of thread per square meter of upholstery.

That is, the larger this figure, the denser the fabric should be, and the better its resistance to wear and abrasion of the fibers will be. Manufacturers must write these parameters on their products. This parameter is very important for sofas and armchairs, as they regularly sit down and get up. A special apparatus can be used to calculate how many cycles of friction the fabric can withstand. Good upholstery should withstand at least 20,000 cycles.

What kind of material is velor?

If you translate this word into Russian, then it will literally mean: shaggy or fluffy. Indeed, this definition fits the material perfectly. Because velor is a fabric that is durable and has a thick pile. Often it is used to fit a soft panel on the wall. Such a fabric looks very beautiful, it is pleasant to touch it, and thanks to beautiful uniform overflows, it is able to decorate most interiors. The material can be made from both natural ingredients and artificial fibers, or a mixture of fibers can be used.

Thanks to the mixed composition, you can get upholstery that will be as wear-resistant and durable as possible. And also with the help of artificial fibers, you can achieve a variety of external effects on the fabric. Most often, velor happens:

  • smooth - its structure is uniform, the pile is located vertically;
  • shaped - has a heterogeneous structure, the texture of which is pronounced, the pile can have a slope and be different in height on the entire canvas, as well as be painted in different colors;
  • printed - to create a picture in color;
  • embossed - has a pattern that is obtained by laying the pile in different directions, can give the material the appearance of a completely different material (for example, snake or crocodile skin);
  • plain-colored - the most expensive and most beautiful type, which has a uniform color.

People who are not experts most likely will not immediately be able to determine what type of upholstery belongs to. They may confuse velor with velvet or corduroy, or other materials that have pile. The main difference between velor will be that its pile is much denser than that of other fabrics.
