Can wood be used to decorate a bathroom?

Today, plastic and ceramics are commonly used to finish the bathroom, because these materials have good moisture resistance. But there are more interesting options, for example, a tree. A bathroom made of wood combines beauty, convenience and environmental friendliness, but requires more care.

Floor covering

First you need to choose what the floor will be made of. The most suitable material is a three-layer parquet board. This material has a number of significant advantages. Already at the production stage, it undergoes special processing. Another advantage of such a board is that its installation is much easier than other materials. It is very important to make sure that the board is treated with water-repellent and anti-fungal agents before laying.This is necessary in order to prevent the most important problem of the tree - rotting. If you use wood in combination with other materials, then it is best to put it in the driest places to reduce the risk of damage to the wood.

Wall covering

For walls, choose one of the following materials:

  • glued board;
  • veneer;
  • lining;
  • whole board.

Each type of coating has its pros and cons, but all of them require additional moisture protection. Today, there are many impregnations and coatings designed to protect wood. However, varnishing is the easiest and most reliable way to protect walls from the harmful effects of water. Of course, any varnish will not work, you need to choose the one that is designed for prolonged contact with moisture. Every 5-7 years, you need to repeat the procedure for treating the walls with a protective coating.

Tree Selection Criteria

When choosing a tree, you need to pay attention to the coefficient of deformation of the board. For example, beech is 40% better able to withstand loads and does not collapse than oak or pine. Another important parameter that you should pay attention to when choosing is mold resistance. The period that the walls can serve without deteriorating the appearance and other properties of wood depends on these indicators.

To prevent the material from drying out after laying, it must be dry during installation. It should also be noted that the humidity in different parts of the room is different. The wettest places are closer to water sources, such as: bath, shower, washbasin. At these points, exotic woods, such as ebony, cork oak, teak, bamboo, will be most suitable.

From domestic trees suitable: ash, aspen, beech, larch. The same rocks should be used to finish the hottest points, because they are the least susceptible to problems with temperature changes. For the rest of the room, most of the wood is suitable, with the exception of pine, wenge, cherry and pear. Choosing wood as the main material for a bathroom is a responsible decision. Wood needs more attention, but gives the room a completely different look and adds coziness.
