Wide ceiling chandeliers, wall lamps, portable lamps and elegant lampshades - all designed to illuminate the apartment's rooms and create a pleasant environment. But not every designer can take into account absolutely all the nuances of lighting present in a particular room. For example, when thinking over a lighting design for a bright room lit by daylight, you can plan the installation of some types of lighting fixtures. But the light design for a dark room, or for example a corridor, will require completely different devices and brighter sources of artificial light.
Selection of lamps
For lighting most rooms, one rule is suitable: “The brighter the light, the better!”.However, such a light source can use too much electricity, while having a rather short lifespan. Therefore, before purchasing the first lamps that come across, you should learn about their varieties and properties:
- Incandescent lamps. This is the most common type of lamp known to every person. They emit the most comfortable light for the eye, but at the same time consume a sufficient amount of energy. Moreover, a significant part of it goes not to lighting, but to “heating”.
- Halogen lamps. This type of lamp is used mainly for zoning the room. They emit a fairly neutral light for the eyes. However, it does not scatter, but forms a light beam.
- Fluorescent lamps. These lamps are rarely used in residential areas. Of course, they have their advantages: low energy consumption, bright lighting, minimal heating. But at the same time they emit a rumble audible to the human ear! Therefore, their use is reduced to lighting workspaces.
- LED bulbs. LED lamps have many advantages, including the absence of ultraviolet and infrared radiation. But their light output leaves much to be desired. Such lamps are best used for spot lighting or for decorative lighting.
Selection of fixtures and their number
Artificial lighting should meet several tasks at once:
- create a comfortable level of light in the room;
- do not harm the eyes;
- delimit space;
- create a pleasant atmosphere.
If the purchased number of fixtures does not fulfill at least one of the specified tasks, the lighting design should be adjusted.In order to calculate the required number of fixtures and the power of the lamps used for them, it should be remembered that for every 5 m2 the premises should account for about 70-75 kW of power!
hallway lighting tips
The darkest room in the apartment is the corridor or hallway. To illuminate it seems to be the most difficult task. But even it is quite doable! For uniform and soft illumination of the hallway, it is necessary to purchase a ceiling lamp or a chandelier that has several sockets for lamps, and is also equipped with a wide shade. In addition, such a chandelier should not be too low from the ceiling.
This will help visually enlarge the space and evenly saturate it with light. Creating comfortable lighting in an apartment requires a small financial outlay, but along with it, a significant investment of time. Because acquiring and installing the right fixtures is just the first step in creating the right level of lighting.
