What are polyurethane floors and their features

Self-leveling polyurethane floors are a modern product created with the latest technologies. The wear-resistant and pleasant-looking surface is used for rooms with intense mechanical stress and high levels of moisture. It is also used in workshops that work with chemicals. Polyurethane floors are very durable and flexible at the same time. They are not afraid of water. This type of coating is unpretentious during operation, it is easy to care for it. With even the most intensive use, it can last for 5-7 years.

Features of the composition of polyurethane

Polyurethane compounds dry much faster than other cement-based mortars. Advantages of epoxy floors:

  • special strength;
  • moisture resistant;
  • wear-resistant;
  • impact resistant;
  • resistant to chemicals;
  • ease of care;
  • a wide selection of colors and textures;
  • environmentally friendly;
  • long service life.

Initially, it was assumed that the floors would be used in production rooms, which are high in humidity, as well as in the shops for the production of chemicals. Because epoxy flooring allows a variety of design solutions with an aesthetically pleasing appearance, they have become widely used in the construction of shopping centers and residential buildings. In rooms with low traffic, thin-layer flooring is used. The mixture is based on epoxy resin. In rooms with serious loads and increased traffic, wear-resistant floors are used. For this, a thicker layer is poured.

Epoxy floor installation technology

The process consists of several stages and includes cleaning and leveling the base. There should be no traces of paint or grease on the screed. To do this, the base is degreased and primed. No cracks on the base are allowed. If available, they are sealed with a building mixture. Check the surface for unevenness with a level. All irregularities are eliminated with the help of self-leveling compounds. Mastic is being prepared.

The required volume of the mixture is poured into a certain amount of water and mixed thoroughly. Before using the diluted mixture, it is necessary to infuse for several minutes. The floor is poured in two stages. First, the solution is poured along the far wall, relative to the door. Then it is leveled gradually towards the exit. It is necessary to add the next portion no later than 10 minutes. After filling the entire floor, the layer is leveled.

Upon completion of the work, the surface is left to harden for seven days, in a well-ventilated area. The finished floor is varnished in two layers. The first layer is a clear epoxy varnish. A day later, a second layer of decorative varnish is applied. Lacquer provides not only aesthetic appeal, but also increases the strength factor.
