What is a parquet board and what are its advantages in the interior

Parquet board is a relatively new type of wood flooring. How parquet board differs from laminate and parquet and what are its main features, we will describe further.

Differences between a parquet board and an array

The main difference is its structure. A massive board is a specially processed solid wooden board with an applied artificial decorative layer. It is the decorative layer that provides all the variety of colors and textures. It can be light or black, it can be lacquered, rough or smooth. It all depends only on the top layer, the base is a wooden board. It is for this reason that this type of flooring is included in the class of premium flooring, as it costs much more than laminate flooring.

Advantages and disadvantages of parquet flooring

The parquet board has a multilayer structure. It consists of three main layers. The lower part, as a rule, is made of coniferous wood, and the upper part is made of valuable hardwood. These two layers are fastened together with a special polyurethane-based adhesive. The features of this composition are that it is not afraid of temperature extremes, moisture and does not contain toxic components in its composition that can be harmful to health, such as linoleum or other cheap floor coverings.

Wood fibers of different layers are arranged relative to each other strictly perpendicular. This condition ensures greater strength of the parquet board. If the first layer is laid longitudinally, then the top layer must be laid transversely, and vice versa, respectively. The thickness of each wooden layer is usually 3 - 4mm.

Benefits of parquet board

  • Price. The buyer receives a floor that is visually indistinguishable from an array, but at a lower cost. Since the top layer of the board is made of expensive wood, which means it is of good quality, such a floor will retain its appearance for at least 20 years.
  • Durability. The average service life of a parquet board is 20-25 years. On real parquet, it is necessary to periodically update the varnish and carry out scraping. With a parquet board, these operations are not required at all.
  • The average service life of a solid board is about 50 years, while a real parquet made of expensive wood is able to last for several centuries, as can be seen from historical buildings and medieval castles. However, as practice shows, an average apartment undergoes a major overhaul every 20-25 years. It is for this period that the service life of the parquet board is calculated.
  • Ease of laying parquet boards. This board is laid on the principle of the most common laminate and such work can be done without special skills and training. Such boards are not glued to the concrete base, but fastened together with special locks.
