Ventilation in the apartment: useful recommendations

Living in a modern apartment requires the organization of an additional influx of fresh air into the home. The ventilation window is traditionally installed in the most humid rooms: bathroom, toilet, kitchen. A few decades ago, this was quite enough. Why has the situation changed, and installation of ventilation in the apartment is required? Types of ventilation installation you can see

Why is additional ventilation needed?

It is rare that a house can be called a model of environmental cleanliness. Furniture, windows, linoleum, wallpaper and other finishing materials - almost all of the above are of synthetic or semi-synthetic origin, due to which toxic fumes enter the air.Cleaning products contribute to the microclimate of the apartment: powders, dishwashing liquid, air freshener, etc. Computer and household appliances, which are available in every home in a large assortment, require their portion of air.

Add to this the installed PVC windows, which prevent natural air exchange with their tightness. Together, all these components - toxic fumes, poor air exchange, an increased need for a portion of fresh air - indicate the need for additional ventilation in the apartment.

Types of ventilation systems

There are three main types of ventilation systems:

1. Natural ventilation. This is the most economical way to bring fresh air into the room. In principle, the air enters by gravity, but it is possible, due to the equipment of the system with fans, from time to time to make it circulate forcibly. The natural ventilation system includes supply valves, exhaust ducts. One example of a built-in inlet valve is plastic window frames.

2. Supply and exhaust ventilation. The supply unit can be monoblock or type-setting. The air supplied from the outside is distributed through a duct system throughout the apartment. If necessary, the temperature of the incoming air can be increased by heating it with a heater.

3. Ventilation with heat recirculation. This type of ventilation system is considered the most efficient, based on energy-saving technologies. The outside air entering the ventilation system is heated in the air exchanger due to the heat of the exhaust air, saving about 40% of the cost of heating an apartment or house. Exhaust air is expelled to the outside thanks to the operation of duct or roof exhaust fans.

Ventilation in the apartment: technical solutions

The choice of ventilation system depends on several factors. One of them is the layout of the room: all windows face one or different sides of the house. If the windows are located on different sides or corners of the house, then natural through or corner ventilation is possible. When all windows are located on only one side, it makes natural ventilation impossible, and a forced ventilation system for housing is connected here.

The second factor is the area of the apartment. In a small room, you can limit yourself to installing forced ventilation, providing the outlet of exhaust air to natural ventilation and equipped during the construction of the house. Manufacturers produce sets of air handling units, which include all the necessary equipment (heater, fan, etc.).

The third factor is the family budget funds that the owners of the apartment (house) are ready to use to organize ventilation in the room. If funds are available, the best choice would be to install supply and exhaust ventilation. Especially when it comes to large areas.
