Asphalting roads - types and features

Laying asphalt pavement is the most important stage in the improvement and creation of an extensive network of roads in cities and other infrastructure facilities. The quality of work directly affects such indicators as traffic permeability, traffic safety and the average number of accidents, wear resistance and durability of asphalt. Types of road asphalting

Modern coating laying technology is divided into two types - hot and cold, which differ in the temperature of the mixture and other application features.

Hot paving - practiced in new road construction or, if necessary, to carry out major repairs. Installation of the coating is carried out in dry weather without precipitation, in the summer or autumn season, on a previously leveled, stable base of sand and gravel, dried from excess moisture.

An asphalt mixture is laid on the road, heated to a temperature of more than 120 degrees Celsius, after which it is evenly distributed using a roller. This method of laying is laborious, but is considered more reliable. In winter, it is not practiced - the rapid cooling of the working mixture, and excessive humidity in the environment during the cold season can worsen the final result.

Cold paving - unlike the hot method, it does not make high demands on weather conditions and can be carried out in any month of the year, the main thing is that the air temperature does not fall below 10 degrees below zero. Most often, the technology is used for laying sidewalks, patching pavement. Its advantage is the absence of the need for heating and strict observance of other conditions, which allows you to get a faster and less laborious result. The method uses a liquid mixture based on bitumen - it is placed in the required place, after which it is carefully rammed.

Features of asphalting roads

Modern methods of asphalt laying actively use a variety of additional materials and additives, which make it possible to obtain a more wear-resistant, reliable and long-term result. The reinforcing mesh strengthens the coating and eliminates the formation of cracks during thermal deformation, the polymer membrane provides timely outflow of moisture.

To improve the properties of the asphalt mixture, additives can be introduced into it, for example, crumb rubber, which is a product of the recycling of recycled car tires. Its use in the composition of asphalt makes it possible to reduce the level of noise generated when driving cars, increase the resistance of the canvas to external loads, extend its service life, and reduce the rate of mechanical wear of the road network.
