In the recent past, in any apartment or private house in all settlements of our country, carpets served as the main decoration of the home. They were hung on the wall, they covered the floor in all rooms and even in the kitchen. In general, carpet weaving in Russia originated under Peter the Great. He himself brought the fashion for carpets from Europe, where only the nobility could afford them.
Under Peter, the first manufactories for the production of carpets were opened. Mostly European weavers worked in them, and only wealthy people could afford to buy their products. Today, many people decide to refuse carpets, arguing that it is not fashionable, they call them dust collectors. In fact, carpets on the floor have their advantages.
Pros of floor carpets
- In some interior styles, the presence of a carpet is quite justified. It makes the room more comfortable.
- You can lie on the carpet, play with your child, it’s just nice to even step on it with your bare foot, not like on a cold floor.
- The carpet can serve as a color accent in the interior in calm, close to each other tones. With it, you can emphasize the seating area in the living room.
- The carpet on the floor serves as additional soundproofing, steps on the bare floor can be heard by the neighbors below, but not on the carpet.
Agree, the arguments in favor of the carpet in the house are quite weighty. Let it seem to some that the interior with it seems out of date, but still it is more comfortable than with other flooring.
What materials are used to make carpets
This is an important question. For example, 100% natural materials are not the best option, since a pure wool carpet is a great haven for dust mites. Therefore, a product made of artificial polymers is preferable: polypropylene, nylon, acrylic. The pile is attached to the adhesive base. But polymers also have disadvantages: they are flammable, while emitting acrid smoke, glue can be toxic, besides, it dries out over time, its small particles mix with dust and cause allergies.
The modern production of artificial fiber carpets is different for the better, as toxic substances are abandoned in favor of safe ones. But, alas, one cannot do without fungicide treatment, and this is also hardly useful. Synthetic carpets, especially cheap ones, wear out quickly, lose their rich color. After their useful life ends, carpets go to landfills and pollute the environment because they do not decompose for hundreds of years. From the foregoing, it follows that natural carpets are still preferable, but this applies only to high-quality products.
How to choose a carpet
With the help of a floor carpet, you can visually correct the shortcomings of the room. So, a product of light colors will make a small space wider, and dark ones, on the contrary, will make it even smaller. By the way, the carpet is never laid close to the walls. The gap must be at least 20 cm.
Near the bed or sofa, you can lay a long pile carpet to step on it with bare feet. Before buying, the product must be smelled. A synthetic carpet should not emit a strong chemical smell, and a natural one should not smell of wool, except perhaps slightly. If you have allergies to dust, synthetics should be preferred.
