When to use geometric patterns in the interior

In the interior, geometric patterns appeared in ancient times. Despite the change of eras, this design remains popular today, acquiring new variations and solutions, and is also part of many modern styles.

What are geometric patterns?

The peculiarity of the pattern, consisting of geometric shapes, is that it can radically change the appearance of an apartment or a certain room. This can be both an advantage and a disadvantage of such a design, and therefore you should be extremely careful in choosing patterns, taking into account the size of the space and interior details.There are many unsuccessful examples of the use of geometric patterns, because their use requires a balanced and rational approach, however, with a harmonious combination, such a detail can become a stylish addition to a room or its main background, soothing and pleasant.

Basic rules for using geometric patterns in the interior:

  • do not strive for maximalism - it is better to focus on a small area of \u200b\u200bspace than to turn the whole room into a depressing abstraction;
  • think over all the options for patterns and their colors to create a harmonious and pleasant environment;
  • study the features of each type of pattern, because each figure sets its own tone for the interior;
  • if you like black and white, be careful with zigzags - this color gives such a pattern aggressiveness and sharpness;
  • do not get carried away with any one pattern - use different combinations to make the atmosphere comfortable and stylish.

Zigzags

Zigzags are rightfully called the most dynamic and, therefore, restless of all patterns. They help get rid of the feeling of routine everyday life, add originality. The main feature of zigzags is their multiple amplification of the traditional striped pattern. Visually, they raise the ceiling, which creates a feeling of spaciousness.

Note! When using zigzags in the interior, you should be extremely careful. The best option is to make them an additional detail on a small section of the wall, use them as a pattern on the carpet. If you go too far with such a pattern, then the room can turn into a surrealist's office, where it will be uncomfortable.

Circles and ovals

This pattern is considered one of the most calm. Soft lines give a feeling of peace and completeness.Such patterns should be used in combination with rectangles, for example, pieces of furniture. If the room is just a combination of round and oval shapes alone, it will look obviously ridiculous.

Rectangles

As mentioned above, a rectangular shape is ideal in combination with the use of ovals or circles. Most often, rectangular patterns can be found in drawings on parquet, carpets, laminate, and ceramic tiles. Rectangles can set the atmosphere of a room. If you want it to encourage action and activity, you should choose patterns of saturated colors for the background. If the place is intended for rest and relaxation, rectangles made in pastel colors will do.

Octagons or honeycombs

Such patterns are often used in the oriental style of interior design, which refers us to the Feng Shui technique. Honeycombs, octahedrons give style and sophistication to the atmosphere, help to focus on a certain area, add individuality to the interior. Often, honeycombs are found in drawings, hanging shelves, and ceramic tiles.
