What person does not like coniferous plants? It seems that they can change any apartment, making it even more comfortable and beautiful and filling it with an incredible smell of pine needles and spruce forest, which is familiar to every person since childhood and which brings back only warm memories. But, alas, growing a coniferous plant at home is not so easy, because not all evergreens can exist in a confined space.
The main problem is that such plants need a constant supply of air, and in winter they also need low temperatures. But, if you are determined to grow a coniferous tree at home, do not despair. There are species that can grow in a room. For example, podocarpus, araucaria, Himalayan cedar, thuja, cypress.
How to care for coniferous plants?
Most people think that indoor plants are no different from those that we see in the forest or in the garden, but this is far from the case. They require a different, more thorough, care.
When caring for coniferous plants, you should adhere to the following rules:
- Place. Coniferous plants will not grow and develop if you choose the wrong place for them or if you change it often. You need to choose it right away for a long time, because these plants are very sensitive to changing places of growth. Place them on the windowsill of the north or northeast side. Never expose them to direct sunlight.
- The soil. The soil for coniferous plants should also be special. You can easily find it in any flower shop or make your own using all the nutrients your plant needs.
- Watering. You need to water the plant with warm water, which has stood in the room for several days. It is important to ensure that the soil is not dry or too wet. In the matter of watering, it is worth focusing on the condition of the soil. In the warm season (summer and late spring), the plant should be watered more often than in winter or autumn.
- Spraying. The crown should be sprayed with warm water in the morning and evening.
- The tree, however, should have enough sunlight. In addition, many scientists advise that in the summer it should be taken out to the veranda in the shade, if possible.
How to water plants
Yellowed and dried needles testify to insufficient or excessively strong watering. If you want to transplant your plant, you should prepare the soil in advance and choose a favorable place. It is worth transplanting in the spring (late April - early May) or at any time of the year, if there is such a need. Alas, there is a chance that your plant will not take root after transplantation (especially if it is an ornamental plant that was purchased in a store), because this is a very serious and responsible procedure.
You will need to clean the roots of the old soil, remove those roots that look sickly and treat the sections with crushed charcoal.
