The second life of old furniture
A new trend has recently come into fashion - “upcycling”.What it is? Old furniture is not sent to a landfill, but is given a second chance to change the look of the apartment. Particularly popular are pieces of furniture from the 50s and 60s of the last century. In those years, furniture was made so durable that it still serves flawlessly and will last the same amount. Take this piece of furniture to a workshop and have your chairs and sofas reupholstered. The furniture of that time was reliable, but the color scheme was not pleasing to the eye. Swap dark upholstery colors for bright, sunny or floral hues. Update your hardware to match the new furniture design. You can do this with your own hands or with the help of furniture restorers.
Rearrange the furniture
The cheapest option to change the interior. Nothing needs to be bought or dismantled. A little imagination, free time and physical effort.
- Arrange furniture asymmetrically. Usually in our apartments furniture is placed along the walls. Break the usual stereotypes. Rotate the sofa 90 degrees.
- Create an area of privacy and relaxation in the room. Move the closet away from the wall and place an armchair and a small table behind it. In this corner you can read, work, enjoy solitude.
- If furniture only fits along the walls, move all furniture clockwise or counterclockwise.
- Arrange paired pieces of furniture in a mirror order. For example, put chairs back to back.
- Don't be afraid to push the furniture to the center of the room or angle it against the wall.
Before you start moving furniture around the room, make a plan of the new arrangement on paper. So you will not make unnecessary rearrangements and the design of the room will turn out to be more thoughtful.
Arrange a housewarming party for flowers
Every house has at least some indoor plants.Most often these are flowers in pots on the windowsill. Even such a piece of furniture can be changed. Pots in all houses look almost the same. Give your flowers new "houses". Surely in the house there are old tea sets, tin cans, an old straw hat. Or buy paints and brushes and paint the pots in the brightest and most fantastic colors.
Photos as a design element
Previously, photographs were printed and hung in frames on the walls or placed in chests of drawers. Now most of the photos are stored on the hard drives of computers. Bring back the old tradition. Search your computer and print out the funniest and most memorable photos of your family members. Make collages out of them or insert them into a frame made from an old wall clock or record player. Any fantasies will make a pleasant change in the atmosphere.
