The use of mirrors in a modern interior

Mirrors in the interior give you the opportunity to vary the feel of the space, but here you need to be smart about using mirrors. For example, if we talk about the most common layouts of apartments, such as Khrushchev and the like, there, as a rule, there is a rather narrow corridor. In order to visually expand the space of this corridor, one elongated mirror, which is often used there, is absolutely not enough.

Proper use of mirrors

In fact, about 3 or even 5 mirrors should be used there. Perhaps relatively small, which will be placed in various locations of the corridor and nearby.This "Through the Looking Glass" creates a really quite powerful effect that allows you to see the room in a completely different way. If we are talking about classic interiors, then it is best to use a massive frame or stucco for a mirror. For modern interiors, simpler frames are quite possible. Something bright like a frame with prints or drawings.

Working with illusions

An increase in space is one of the properties of mirrors, but here you need to understand in which direction the space increases. It is extended along the longest side of the mirror, for example, if the mirror is elongated upwards, then the space will visually stretch upwards. If the mirror has a large side parallel to the ground, then the space will visually increase in breadth.

Note! This effect allows you to create an interesting feeling. For example, if you use a mirror, which is the longest diagonal.

The optimal location of the mirror is considered to be perpendicular to the window. However, before placing a mirror there, you need to figure out how the sunlight will be reflected there and what kind of reflection that will be observed in this mirror.

Mirror as an accessory and tool

In many apartments, mirrors have a purely utilitarian function. They hang in the hallway or are located in the bathroom and the purpose of the mirror is quite obvious there. However, the use of a mirror is not limited to this. It is also an excellent tool for adjusting the feeling of space, and besides this, it is a decorative element.

Can be used as an accessory. Consider its functions in this context:

  • Correction of volumes in the room - several mirrors are required here, but they will undoubtedly fulfill their function, if the reflective surfaces are correctly positioned, they can correct a space that is too narrow or too elongated in any direction, increase a room that is too low;
  • Reflect light - where there is relatively little light, lighting devices are not always needed, sometimes there are enough mirrors that correctly reflect light;
  • Correction of flaws - where there is excessive curvature or unnecessary protrusions, mirrors are excellent at hiding such imperfections, as they correct the configuration of the visual perception.

Mirror like a window

In conclusion, we note such a cool option as a mirror decorated under the window. In some interiors, it is really made out like a window frame or various curtains or window sills are made. They look especially advantageous in interiors with no or a small number of windows.
