The “metro” tile (in another way it is called “boar”) of a rectangular shape resembles a decorative brick. The convex surface with beveled edges is smooth and even. The popular tile was created by the French architect Hector Guimard for lining the Paris metro. Today, such a coating is used for interior finishing work: for the walls of kitchens and bathrooms.
The use of tiles "boar" in the interior
Due to the imitation of brickwork, such tiles are often used in interior design in an urban loft style or sophisticated rt - deco. Subway tiles are ideal for decorating in the style of:
- original country and elegant industrial;
- romantic Provence and multifunctional high-tech.
Subway tiles are preferred by Scandinavians. The usual colors of the "boar" are pastel shades, with the help of which a calm, warm atmosphere is created in the home. A room with “boar” tiles in bright saturated colors with a glossy surface becomes elegant and looks more festive. "Boar" with a matte surface is available in white, beige, gray or cream shades.
It looks especially exclusive on the kitchen apron. Adds appeal to the color of the applied waterproof grout: a cheap sample of light shades quickly loses color. The grout of a contrasting tone effectively stands out against the background of any color of the "boar".
Important! In small kitchens, when laying diagonally, tilers do not use contrasting grout.
Varieties of "metro" tiles and their sizes
The sizes of the "boar" are different. You can order your sizes. Once upon a time, tiles were small in size with a length of 12 to 30 cm and a width of 6-10 cm. There are now standard sizes on the market: 75 x 150 mm; 100 x 200 mm; 150 x 300 mm. "Boar" with inserts recreates the Italian interior. Inserts for tiles are also produced with a 3D effect with a game of texture on monochrome. Insert charismatic daisies, cute to girlish hearts, using two pastel shades of cream and coffee with cream. Shades of dark chocolate and vanilla look stylish.
Features of laying tiles "boar"
The metro is laid in various ways: horizontally, vertically, diagonally, in zigzags, apart. It turns out the original beautiful composition.The laying methods are complex, it is not easy to work with the “boar”, even when laying in the classic traditional way. The chamfer along the edges makes it difficult for tilers to make joints.
It is advisable to entrust the laying to professionals with experience in working with such unusual tiles. Particular attention should be paid to preparing the surface for cladding. It should be dry and perfectly even. To improve adhesion properties, it is recommended to perform a primer, surface putty before starting laying. To prevent the tiles from slipping, the adhesive must be applied more: both on the surface of the wall and on the tile, since the tile is thick and massive.
