Design and principle of operation of the current transformer
Any current transformer consists of three main elements - a closed magnetic circuit and two types of winding (secondary and primary). The principle of its operation is simple - the primary winding is switched on in series, passing through itself the full current. Overcoming the resistance in this case leads to the formation of a magnetic flux, which catches the magnetic circuit. Passing through the turns of the secondary winding, such a flux provokes the activation of an electromotive force. It, in turn, leads to the appearance of a current that overcomes the resistance of the coil and the incoming load. As a result, a voltage drop occurs at the output of the secondary winding.
Types of current transformer
There are a fairly large number of classifications of such devices - they are divided according to the type of installation, method of execution. the number of steps and according to other factors. The most popular classification takes into account the purpose of the transformer, distinguishing two main varieties:
- Measuring. Such transformers transmit data to measuring devices connected to the network. This variety is intended for installation in high voltage circuits, to which it is simply impossible to connect measuring devices without such an “intermediary”;
- Protective. Unlike the previous version, the protective transformer transmits the received information to the control and safety equipment.
