If at least once you have encountered capital construction, then you probably know that things cannot do without geotextiles. This is a versatile material used in the laying of new roads, the construction of buildings for various purposes, for drainage and garden work. But how to choose the right one and we will try to find the answer to this question in this article.
How geotextiles are made
Geotextiles are one of the types of geosynthetics. It is made by needle-punched, thermo-bonded or hydro-bonded methods from polypropylene and/or polyester threads. The cost of geotextiles, as well as its performance characteristics, will depend on the feedstock. We note right away that geotextiles from polyester and polypropylene yarns are obtained with the maximum strength. If during the production process, to reduce the cost of the material, the manufacturer mixes cotton or wool threads, such a fabric has lower moisture resistance and is not suitable for all work.
Geotextile groups
- Geofabric. Based on the name, it is clear that this is a material made by knitting and stitching. The threads are intertwined strictly at a right angle, as this greatly affects the strength. Geofabric is soft, but at the same time tear-resistant.
- Geotextile. This is a material made by a needle-punched or thermally bonded method. It is not as durable, but it has good water resistance. The geotextile is ideal for drainage work.
How the material is used in the construction of private houses
Let's start with the most important thing: this material is used in the construction of the foundation. It helps to more evenly distribute the load on the ground, while protecting the foundation from external factors, such as sudden changes in temperature and high humidity. Also, geotextiles are used in the installation of inversion-type flat roofs, which are now at the peak of popularity. On top of a concrete slab or monolith, a layer of bituminous waterproofing is laid, drainage for moisture removal, a layer of insulation, and a geotextile is laid as a finishing layer. We also note that the material is useful when laying garden paths, recreation areas, children's or sports grounds. The possibilities of its use are almost unlimited. You can save on anything, but you cannot save on the purchase of geotextiles, since the final durability of the structure depends on it.
